I'm wondering what was everyones first car they owned?

Mine was a 72 Chevy Malibu, it burned a case of oil a week, but I was young, 20, and didn't know any better, until I was driving home one night from work, and ka plunk on the highway, piston went thru the oil pan, and that was the end of that car!!

I bought my first vehicle when I was 16. It was a 1974 Dodge Truck. It was 8 years old when I bought it. It was an old farm truck with dents and rust all the way around. I paid $400 for it out of the money I'd made off my club calf that year. The tires were studded and it made lots of sparks when you'd spin them on the pavement. I lost control of it on a gravel road one night and drove it off an approach and bent the frame. It didn't run too good after that.

A 1964 silver 2 dr. Lemans...with a flat head six cylinder engine. I loved that car! No air conditioner...and I didn't care!

Mine was a '69 F.ix I.t A.gain T.omorrow Spyder made 1 out of 2, it took me a year and had it done 2 months before my 16th b-day. Great car for the summer, wasn't worth more than a good pair of boots in the winter, I could NOT keep the dang thing on the road it was so light.

first car 55 chevy of course ;-) back then you were the king of the road in one of those jewels. has to be my alltime favorite car . was fortunite enough to buy back my ol SS 396 chevelle.. about 6 years ago that i once owned when i was 18... from a friend that let it set for 20 plus years it's in a million pieces right now. the ol muscle cars are hard to beat .but they can take a light weight piece of aluminum and get all kind of horse power these days from it

I had a '66 Dodge Dart -- powder blue, had a slant 6, and built like a tank. Ran that car all over the US and sold it for more than I paid. (that never happened again! lol)

I hadn't thought of that car for a long time.

them ol mopars were something else and are commanding top dollar these days.

Mine was a 75 Dodge Dart. Green with white pin stripe. Had the blinkers up on top of the fender. When my neice rode with me and I turned one on she said "You did magic!!"

When you turned a corner it felt like the car was going to turn over. Brakes were terrible also. Maybe they were drum brakes ???.

Don't get me wrong I was glad to have it.

I took care of it because I had paid for it myself and I appreciated it, unlike most kids today who get a brand new one paid for by mommy and daddy. When they wreck it they get another one if they don't get killed in it. I think more kids should start out with an old one because they're not going to take care of them if they have been handed to them.

1972 Vega GT, (the ones that came out before the motors went bad), 4 speed. Tangarine with a wide black stripe on the hood and trunk. No air con and an 8 track tape player! I loved that car. Absolutely loved it. :heart:

You are so right...when my daughter had to start making her own car payments, she all of a sudden got really, really careful.

I had a 1972 Demon Dart. Demon outside, Dart inside. Green. Plaid interior. It was the car I learned to drive on and I drove it first, but I didn't count it first because it wasn't actually mine. It was my brother's.

know how ya feel. my dads first car was a 70something pontiac GTO. bought it brand new for 300 bucks. said he didnt know how he was gonna pay the bank off. :shock: you cant even buy one that runs anymore for anything close to 300 dollars. im not even gonna say what i drive. i know im young but.... the first thing i drove was my dads dodge. and the steering alignment was off. good thing im a tough country chick otherwise i dont know if i could of gotten that home. my mom bout strangled my dad when she found out i drove it by myself too.

My first car was a '52 Ford pick up. It was on its third engine. Had a mercury flat head 8 in it. No radio, no tape deck. It did have air condition, that was a silver dollar size hole in the windshield. Sort of got a little cold in the winter. Never could get a girl to sit next to me while I was driving especially when it was raining because that was right where the hole was at.

Dave that reminded me. I knew a guy who had a VW bug that didn't have any front seats in it. The guy was poor. He said he used a lawn chair for a front seat. Guess you do what you have to do. Very nice guy.

'55 Cheverolet here as well. That car had two speeds. Dead stop and wide open.
Those were good days.

Can't do that anymore. Roads are too conglomerated up. Radar and radios also became a hindrance.
