Would anybody see a problem with letting bred cows ( 4- wks away from calving) out on fescue pasture, it's not tall but is all fescue. This would help on limited hay supply.

Thanks

Shouldn't be a problem. Anything to save hay just make sure they have their minerals.

Unless you're anti-antibiotic, I'ld used the mineral with CTC.

My cows have been eating MaxQ fescue for the last year. They ate Fescue before the bull serviced them, while they were pregenant, and now while they are nursing. The cows have eaten green grass all winter and now the grass is starting to grow since it has been so warm and wet for the last couple of weeks.

I still have 3 fields with alot of fescue left and other fields are fescue that is eaten down and I have short bred cows, heavy springer cows, and cow-calf pairs in all the fields. I think Dun makes a good point of having an antibiotic mineral in the pasture. The cows will do better on the grass with free choice hay than on hay alone
