I'm a rookie and need your advice. I have 4 heifers(2-brangus 2-braford bred to semmi) that will calf in March. They are on grass and also a mineral tub and salt block. Dont need hay yet, the grass is still growing (Houston area). Will give them free choice hay in a couple of weeks. I feed them 20% cubes in the evenings(about 3-4 lbs each). Did I read somewhere that I need to stop giving the protein cubes because it will cause problems during calving?

As long as the bull is a calving ease bull and you don't feed enough extra to get them fat, you shouldn't have a problem. On a better diet calving is generally easier and the calves are more vigorous then if they're fed a poor/marginal diet. We don;t as a rule, unless it's going to be really sever cold weather, feed any supplement as long as they're on grass. When they go on hay we may, but it depends on the quality of the hay.
But then again, last year ours got fat during the winter eating stockpiled grass pasture.
