favorite deer rifle

I know that there has to be lots of deer hunters on here.Its a passion of mine.Just currious what cal each prefers.I hunt with a winchester super shadow 270 short mag. with a 130 gr silvertip balistic point.it sure makes a clean kill.Put lots of meat in the freezer with it in the last 4 years since i bought it.the only animal that didnt fall in its tracks was a buck i killed this year.it ran about 15 yards but upon cleaning him he had no heart left.he just ran on adreneline i suppose.killed a big hog last year with him also.took a nice ram a few years back.Oh did I mention lots of deer too.My son hunts with a 270 not the short mag as I do and its a deer getter too but just dont do as well as mine or maybe he just cant place the bullet like his ol man can?

Don;t have any one favorite. M700 .308, Contender in 6.5 Bullberry Improved, Winshester M70 Featherweight in .257 Roberts Improved, Ultralight Arms 25-06, the one I've been using the past couple of years is a Winchester M70 carbine in .250 Savage. They're all meat getters

Winshester M70 Featherweight in .257 Roberts Improved

This is a very nice round for whitetail, along with 7MM-08. Most literature I've read on ballistics puts a .257 Weatherby at the top for flying flat and fast, and it's really a beefed up .257 Roberts. The M70 Featherweights are one of the most balanced nice to pack rifles I've laid hands on. At least in my budget line of choices.

30-30 Winchester...wore the bluing off riding in a scabbard as a kid. The last time I hunted I used my '06...03A3 with a 4x12 so I could see something beyond the front sight.

338wm Ruger bolt - for elk and bear. Over kill but it sure shoots flat with 210 grain bullets.

30/06 Winchester bolt - for long shot options on deer

30/30win or pump rem slug barreled shotgun for close range deer.

Ruger 10/22 for small game

Ruger single six in 22 mag for bullfrogs

I sometimes switch to differant guns but these are my favorites.

You guys have to use Shotguns to hunt deer in IL? If so what is the reasoning behind this law?
