Evaluate these three hereford bulls

Help Support CattleToday:

Lot 19 is first, Lot 51 is second. This is strictly from a Phenotype point of view of the two bulls.

You have not given enough information as to what your ultimate goals are for the progeny - Terminal or Maternal or both?

Lot 19 is beefier, and Lot 51 is lower BW, moderate BW, WW and higher Marbling. Lot 62 has acceptable EPD's but does not show me much "Herd Bull" Phenotype.

Without a definite and specific goal in mind, it is just a guessing game at best.

DOC HARRIS

Really not the type to use on Santa cows, too rangy, too slabsided, roofy, not nearly enough muscle. Herefords should be beef animals first....

Thanks guys. Doc I am looking for a bull that will produce good ww steer for stockyard yet sire females worth retaining. As a person who has mainly been around Char bulls I am also having diffculty finding enough muscle in hereford bulls. At least in bulls that don't cost 8000!

I know you know your cattle mainly because I have bought some from you and they are looking great but to give my opinion on these bulls in the post. There is a wide range in phenotype in any breed but Hereford has a wider range in my opinion. I myself had some larger frame harder doing large Hereford bulls that I was breeding to Black Angus type Brangus type cows. Those are the type of bulls that I saw on the link provided. I took all those calves to sale barn. Once I decided to start making some of my own replacements I went to a completely different type of Hereford one that is a smaller frame score and looks as wide as it does tall you could balance a lunch room tray on its back and eat off of it with no problem. This type I am describing looks as if it has received a feed bucket even though it hasn't. With all the grass we had this spring and summer for those bulls condition in the video to look like that makes them seem like that could be hard doers. When breeding to Gerts that are larger framed animals you won't have to worry about frame from the Hereford bull and really don't have to over emphasize ww epd. A middle of the road ww and yw epd will do fine because the cross breeding kick you get from Brahman influenced breeds over Herefords will more than make up the difference. Be it Gert, Brangus, or Brahman over Hereford you will get a cross breeding kick like no other cross imo. With that cross for replacements I look for a fleshy easy doing Hereford with good feet and great disposition and medium milk that is very early maturing everything else ww, yw, milk, eyes and frame the Gert will handle.

This is my bull at almost a year old he has faults but is fleshy without having any grain and even though I don't have a pic from behind is wide and is getting wider everyday.

I loved that heifer with the most red on her face. You bull looks good too!!!

They would go over my gerts.

Don't like lot 51 rear end--too girly for me

I like 62 alright but seems a little short in the front--his sac hangs better

19 is my choice but his sac isn't as dropped. Of course my opinion is just that--my opinion but, I like evaluating bulls on here as it makes me feel important and Iike I really know what I'm talking about-- :cowboy:

How did I miss this? That was hilarious, thanks for making my morning. :tiphat:
Who in the world would want an easy keeping moderate framed Hereford that gains weight on pasture faster than Oprah in a Baskin Robbins?
