I only caught part of that...so I guess that tells ya', I, for one don't speak Spanish. What kind of mission is going on at your church? Did I get that kind of right?

Thats right...... I did go on a mission. I went on a two year mission to the Dominican Republic. It was a Mormon mission. I'm so glad I got the opportunity to learn spanish. I use it every day, and with the many latinos that work on ranches and farms it comes in handy.

Good for you! :) I would love to be bilingual...in any language.

Alice

Me too. I envy my Daughter for doing languages, she speaks, Other than English of course. Italian, German and Spanish, I can't seem to get my head around it. :(

A friend of mine speaks six written languages (Spanish, French, German. Russian, Manderin Chinese and Vietnamese) and Hmong. He can conduct a horsemanship clinic in four of them.

At one time I spoke fluent Korean (had a sleeping dictionary) and a little Vietnamese. I can kinda sorta get along with Mexican cowboys about work stuff if they speak a little English.Z

If you would love to be bilingual, then learn another language. Time is the stuff life is made of. Don't waste it, use it.
I think you average more than 10 posts a day which mean nothing. Use that time to learn a language.
Several people have told me that if you go live in another country and immerse yourself in the language for six months you will become fluent. This would broaden you both intellectually and culturally.
After you learn one, then learn another. No telling how much good you could do. You could translate for those that can't speak English in hospital emergency rooms. In police stations. You could help lost children in the shopping malls.

The only thing that can stop you is yourself. Don't let a lack of self confidence or lack of self discipline back you down. A number of people would applaud your leaving the boards knowing you were going on to fulfill yourself.

Go for it :!: :!:

Ahhhh, so much rain....so much time...

Maybe an immersion course in Irani or Iraqi, huh?

A number of people would applaud my leaving the boards anyway, Ryder. Nice try. :D

Alice.....there is no need to leave the boards to learn a new language, as we have it all here, Latin a little while ago and now Mexican/Spanish Oh! and we have had some French also, I am sure you could fit in time for both the boards and a language. Leave indeed we need all the Women we can get, plus some of your comments make me laugh, go for it girl and stay. ;-) :)

Chris, I took Spanish from the time I was in 7th grade thru my first 2 years of college. I don't have an ear for it, and I don't have the patience.

As for the suggestion to "leave to learn,"...I simply consider the source.

im about to finish up my 3rd year of spanish. i couldnt even begin to translate that. is it my fault or the teachers fault?

I think it might be a mixture of both.I an supposed to be fluent in french took it in high school and college but I know I am not anymore. I can speak and read a little but as far a writing I have enough problem with my first language :P .If you don't use it all the time it is really easy to lose. Not to many french people where I live. Now if I was fluent in red neck I might go further ;-) .
