He's not fat either. I seen a Simental walk through the ring at Fairview that broke 3,000 lbs in his working clothes a number of years ago.

Those big animals like that are quite impressive I think!
I saw a beautiful deep dark red gert or beefmaster go thru Covington a couple years ago that was absolutely ginormous too. Can't remember what he weighed. But slaughter bulls were definitely NOT 1.75 back then either.

We had a bull that was a frame 7 and weighed 2,500-2,600 plus year round. His daughters are around 1,500 lbs cows on average. A few over and a few under. We want a bull to weigh 2.200 or more. We need the size for our buyers.It is getting harder too find the good big bull. So many have went to the toads.
With the rains expect the pair prices to jump some. Expect lighter calves to also. Both were steady the last two weeks around here. A local breeder has heifer pairs at Fairview today. Will be interesting what they bring.Those big animals like that are quite impressive I think!

Almost saw 5000 dollar pairs last time. I expect your right. This rain has everyone with grass fever!
If there is any 3 n 1 heifer pairs, I think they are the ones that'll break 5000
There were some local heifer pairs bring $5,500 in late February. Since the prices have dropped and movement slowed.
Was you at the last sale. Have a friend who buys there and makes every special sale. He felt the last sale was softer and prices down from the previous sale.
Didn’t see the start. What I did see was softer. If I had got approved would have bid on some of the better breds. Felt they were worth the money. Sent you a dm.

Definitely some could be bought worth the money. I didn't need/want any heifer pairs or bred heifers. Most pairs had 1 to 2 month old calves. They'd have been ready for a bull real soon.
Was after 3n1 pairs. They had NONE unfortunately.
Lots of heifer pairs at 4000 and up. Never broke 4500. I think mostly 4200 or so.
There was some thinner heifer pairs brought under 4000. I didn't bother keeping track of bred heifers but the ones I remember were around 2000. I think bred cows were mostly reasonable.
They did sell some bulls first thing that sold a bit cheaper for sure. I already bought a bull for this year or I'd a dang sure bid on one of the 2 herefords they sold.
With the economic climate in America I suspect that calve prices will fall.

I don’t think so, although I’m wanting to buy cows but they are too high.
This shortage is a lot deeper than the last two cycles, numbers are so low it’s going to take more than the usual two years to get numbers back up, that’s with normal rain fall, I’m thinking we still have 2-3 years to get caught up.
I have a lot of hay left from last year and am starting my cutting this year, with all of the rainfall and low cow numbers it’s not worth much.

You bring up a good point. Here during each cycle the numbers went down and many farms grew up into trees. Most of these farms were steeper and will never be used again for grazing. Plus the average cattle person age here is probably in their 60's. I will be 68 soon.

I will soon be 66, and I’m not wanting to run as many cattle as I use to, I worked hard all my life, and I would rather go to one ranch or the other where I have nice camp houses and piddle with building deer stands or a chicken pen for my granddaughter, I still love to work but a lot of things aren’t as important as they used to be to be.

Cows bulls and pairs on Thursday.
Almost 900 cows this week. I think this is a tremendous opportunity for the barn and everyone selling too!

2600 head sold at waurika 12/10 with 2-3 wts up to 6.25. Hope it holds through January
Since Murray has started this thread Enid has become the hottest cow market in Oklahoma. 1,204 cows and bulls this week. Over 60 individual buyers and 9 packer buyers. The owner is one of the best barn men I know. If it was closer we would use it more. We are 125 miles away. Think I can pay freight on a load and still make money.

I watched parts of the last feeder sale of the year at both Toppenish and Vale. Big drafts of heavier calves. I wrote down some of Toppenish. Their first draft was 65 head of weaned steers weighing 642 which sold for $405.50. Mostly black but some red and red neck steers mixed in. 62 head of weaned vaccinated heifers weighing 689 brought $342.50. Probably 75% black and BWF with the other 25% being red or red neck. I didn't write anything down at Vale the next day but they seemed higher.
Toppenish was just feeder cattle in group lots. No singles and no cows. They had over 1,400 head. Vale had over total 2,600 head.

I have a few cows there and talked to Dakota a few times. I like him. He reminds me of the old barn owner at Clinton. Many of us that sold there have been trying to find a new barn. Our closest 3 are trader barns. Some north and east of us are trying Fairview. I may try them next as they are closer. But plan to try Enid at some point.
