Every state has it's own election laws/rules. They can all do as they please. With electoral college, all they please only applies to their state- It's their state, their people, let them do it as they see fit in accordance with the Constitution.
Make this a popular vote election and now every state's laws/rules are a much bigger issue for the remaining states populations. Especially when so many are not following the Constitution.
Voter fraud in ONE state could alter the entire election much, much easier. Our current election had a difference of about 200k votes. That would not be a hard number to produce for a group with lots to gain. Alter a few computers. Hacking one major county's election results could do it.
If a state reduced their voting requirements to just signing a form, a few buses of people could spend the day driving around and voting making a big impact on the nation.
It would take away an additional layer of protection against fraud for all of us.
