Donald Trump is the only Republican that stands a chance, and it's slim at best. The other Republican candidates are all the same, just with a slightly different story. We need someone that's not a career politician, and lawyer.
Umm, Rand Paul was working as an ophthalmologist a few years ago. Problem is, he wants to cut spending, and wants more money in the economy, and less in government, so they tend to give him less coverage, in favor of an entertainer, Trump.
Ultimately, all action by Washington has to result in more spending. Even for so-called conservatives, who want more war, more farm subsidies, more war on drugs, etc, etc. Somebody has to be making money off the system.
And of course, building a fence is a good way for someone to make money. And then illegals will tunnel under, or cut through, or whatever, so we will need to spend more money with thousands of troops guarding them. And then when we become the next USSR, the fence can be used to keep us in!
Of course, few will consider just cutting the welfare that attracts the illegals. That would mean spending cuts, and we don't do that. Then the agencies or companies getting government money will be out of business.
You would also think we could put all our fat kids to work picking lettuce or whatever, but we're too good for that. Better to spend more money on anti-obesity programs, and more money into the healthcare system to pay for obesity-related illness like diabetes which is epidemic.
And of course, rather than have the unemployed working the farms, we would rather hand out welfare, which enriches those running those programs, and of course, results in more single-parent homes, as dads are replaced by government checks. Which results in more poverty, and more welfare checks. What a system!
My folks have many big ag farmer friends who use cheap immigrant labor and live in big mansions. By government providing healthcare, housing, etc, the farmers don't have to pay as much, and that allows them to make more money. So the farmers are actually on a form of welfare, but nobody says anything about that.
Bottom line is that despite the talk, few of us really want less government. In fact, government has become our national religion. It will protect us from bad guys all over the world, it will keep our kids off drugs, it will educate us, provide healthcare, provide jobs, and take care of us in old age, and will keep farms from losing money. Is there any problem government cannot solve? Praise be to Government!
