Dollar store

There is one close me and the packages are smaller, but prices are pretty close in line to Walmart, etc. It is a good place to stop by and grab a few items. It has a place to keep your horses while shopping and our local Amish population support it well.

Sam Walton started out with what was called 5 & dime stores. Eventually had one in every big city. It was basically what the dollar stores are now. Then he stepped up in size with his first Walmart stores that were about the size of a high school GYM. Then to what they are now.

I had to walk in to a gas station to use the bathroom. Had my nephew and son and thought I would grab a little pack of mms or some thing to share. $5 pretty much for every crappy, junk candy in the place. I just waked out. There is a little, local store that has small ice cream cones for a couple bucks. I'd rather go there and support them any ways.

It's crazy to see people come out of there with just bags of that high priced junk. I could eat a sit down meal for that price.

We travel highway 50 through Nevada a couple of times a year, and have stopped at the McDonalds (reluctantly) in Ely because it's convenient. This last time we stopped and ordered two breakfast burrito meals and the total was over 23 bucks. We walked out too. There was a grocery store just down the street and we got 10 pieces of fried chicken for 8 bucks. Four pieces filled us up and we threw the rest away because we had no way to keep it cold.

I can't even eat McDonald's any more. In a pinch I stopped at one a month ago. Hadnt eaten there in years. I ate about half the burger and threw it out the window. It had so much sauces and junk and didn't taste any thing like a burger.

We use to destroy those 3 for $1 cheeseburgers burgers back I'm the day. 🤣

They will have two lines wrapped around those McDonald's. I can't understand it.

I don’t have much use for a Dollar Store, there are at least 6 Dollar Generals in this county, plus 2 Dollar Trees, and a Family Dollar. There’s also something called 5 Below that opened up not too long ago, not sure if it’s a dollar store type thing or not.
From what I can tell the name brand items in those dollar stores are smaller quantities and or higher prices and no telling where their brands are made so no thank you.

Here it's either shop at the Dollar General for a lot of items or travel 60 miles to another store.

Today I bought milk there (for $1 less per gallon than anyplace else in town), and Kingsford charcoal (not available anyplace else in town in the winter).

We goto walmart once every few weeks but at 120 miles round trip we end up grabbing lots of odds and ends at the dollar store.

5 below, when it opened by me, everything in the store was under $5. My wife went in there recently to pick up something little for Christmas, and apparently that's no longer the case. Can't really blame them from the last few years, but I suppose that's the problem with stores that name themselves after a dollar value. Inflation will make sure their stuff gets crappier, or they have to change their name to carry their same stuff.

The only thing I have ever bought at the dollar store is birthday and Christmas cards yo send to the grandkids. It is 50 miles to the nearest Walmart. My shadow never crosses their door step.

I have bought a few things like body wash, and shampo for the the Dollar Tree. My experience was that there was not the same quality and it really was not that much cheaper than Walmart. At the Dollar type stores you have to buy two bottles that is slightly more than one bottle at Walmart. It has been awhile since I have been in one, but I think I actually ended up paying slightly more for a product that was not as good a quality. When we still had a Kmart I actually preferred shopping there; they didn't have as big a crowd, and it was easier to get around in.
