At sales how do they determine the starting price? I've noticed that the regular sellers cows start 20 to 50 cents per pound more than folks that only sell once in a while. I've attended a few different sales and it seems to be the same. Horses too.

You're right MWJ but if you are selling your cows which would you rather see them start at 20 cents or 70 cents per pound. You might be lucky and they would let your cows go for all that they could get, but I see them cut them off short of what they could bring if they kept going with them. I've seen them keep some cows in there for ten minutes and others for ten seconds. I am just wondering whats the difference. I am also refering to cows that are about the same quality. I am trying to learn how to judge these cows.

the starting price isnt deteramined by whose cows/calves they are.its what type size color they are that deteramines the starting an final price that they bring.as well as what the buyers are looking for on sale day.
