Cull cow and bull prices making us smile!

Here in the East, cull prices are climbing. Some kill bulls in Eastern Pa brought $114 a cwt this week. High-yielding breaker cows bringing up near $90 a cwt. Seems it is no use to keep a cow around that has a problem, they are just worth too much $ dead!
Any of you old -timers(KT,CB,TB) want to tell us the the cheapest cull prices you can remember?

Very few years ago the best of the culls might bring .40. Here that was in the drought of 2007.

I have sold some worn out run down old cows for 25 cents in the last few years, it was as much the cows condition that set that price rather than a bad market. The lowest I have sold killer bulls for and was the lowest killer market I have sold in was the winter of 08, I sold a as good as they get limo bull that weighed 1855lbs for 55 cents.

Thanks,Kenny and Denver. These darn bulls are getting close to the fats up here. I think the fats are at about $126 or $128 at the most. I am thinking these good cull prices will cool down after Labor day weekend.

The cull buyers are telling us to hold them for higher prices. All they will say is soon. I think you are right about after labor day they will be cheaper.

Our killer bulls are about 1.00 to 1.13 this week, and cows up to. 93cwt. The one everyone is talking about is a 2380lb bull that brought 1.11.

It sure does Denver. I am trying to get the calves on the crappy cows to eating out of the creep feeder good so weaning them a little light wont be so hard on them.

like the others ive seen cull prices from $25 to $40 a 100 on cows.really cant remember the cull bull prices.but the cull bulls have been sky high for almost 2yrs.an cull cow prices have been the same way for 2yrs.

I haven't really been paying attention to bull and cull prices here, but I have been looking for some good bred cows. I can't understand why good pairs are some cheap. Last week good brangus cows with 4wt crossbred calves on there side were bring 1050 to 1125, but a cow with a number on her side was bringing 1250 to 1400. Its crazy, you got at least a 500 dollar calf alive and on the ground. Anyone else seeing this?

Not here. Cows with baby calves still 1500 and hardly any being sold. Unless its a very good cow it ends up being bought by the slaughter buyers.

What age are are the pairs for that? If there under about 7 and there good, here those same pairs would be about 2000$.

Buy them and sell them as killer cows and light feeders! There is a lot of money made on that kind of price. Usually when they are that cheap here the killer buyers snap them up.

In the early 80's canner/cutter cows sold in the upper 20's and utility cows in the low 30's during the fall. The following spring they were up $.10-.12.

In the wreck of 74 seem to remember some thin canner/cutters were under $.10

Saturday evening, at a small auction in middle WV, 6 pairs of 1200 lb cows with calves over 250 lb (6 year old cows) brought $1250 a pair. I wasn't there, but my neighbor said they were nice black- brockle face cows. It takes an eye popping pair up here to get to $1500. Maybe a 1400 lb 4yr old cow with a 4 wt bull calf would be a bell ringer. The thing we see is the kill buyer will grab a pair like this and as soon as the auctioneer says sold , the kill buyer will say " now sell the calf".
