When people refer to a club calf, they are saying it is a POTENTIAL show calf. They are only worth more money to someone looking for a GOOD show animal, and this animal is actually good. People that show steers/heifers generally have a good eye for calves and are willing to pay for a good show prospect. The steer or heifer can be purebred or a complete mongrel. They are looking at phenotype not pedigree, although there are many non-registered bulls being very heavily used for siring club calves. Some people look for specific breeds or breed combinations.
