Chickens???

Get em a nice little heifer for 4-H. Then you get a nice cow. Win, Win situation.

They asked about that one already aplus. I told them they could start on one of the newborn heifers I have, and show in commercial class.
I have the perfect candidate for showing for them, however, in one of my pastures. I have an arabian filly that has already been to 3 months of show school, and would be perfect candidate for them, and they are comfortable around her.
I think they are just more interested in animals in general because they are starting to be exposed to 4-H in school.

There is so much for the kids to do in 4-H, you can be running night and day if you do not put your foot down. I am fond of the showing of livestock. But this year my daughter is opting to do the horses instead of playing softball.

In touch with that one. We have three little cypresses, 10, 8 ,and 1 1/2. They keep us on the go constantly, but I want them to participate in anything they want. We're leaving in just a couple of hours to go to their basketball games.And I don't do half of the running my wife does, but we want them to have good social skills, and live life to the fullest - don't care if we have to run around a bit.

I wouldn't want them to turn out to be as ornery as caustic ;-)

We always kept about 150 or so Golden Comets when i was younger.
We had some Plymouth Rocks too but they didn't seem to lay as many eggs as the Comets.

We had a chicken coop (about 10x15 in size) with about 50 nesting boxes for the hens and we would caponize all the males and eat/sell them once they grew up.

Used a 40" chicken wire fence and clipped one of their wings so if they tried to fly they just ended up dive bombing in a spiral :lol: .

We kept dogs around and taught them not to monkey with the chickens...dogs did good keeping predators away.

I know this can obviously be done....but tell me...how do you break the dogs from killing the chickens? :?: :cboy:

Not many I don't miss very often. If I pull the trigger meat is fixin to hit the ground. No brag just fact wasn't allowed to miss as a kid get your butt tore up shells cost to much.

Are all three girls? Heaven help you if so. :D Now that our third one is old enough to start everything, Boy 8, Girl 10 and son 15 it keeps you going. Nice thing about the sports is they usually can only do one at a time. Even though my boys find a way to get them to overlap, last summer was Baseball, 4-H and Jr. Golf all summer long. And this winter was Wrestling and Basketball together with 4-H.

But in 4-H if my daughter did everything she wanted she would have a different meeting every night of her life. I actually hated to see her quit Softball (nice exercise), but they meet and ride horses same nights as softball games.

Cypress, just had a Brainstorm! Get about a 150 Chickens, and Aplus says he'll provide the services of cleaning all that Chicken DoDo up.Off vehicles, Tractors, Mules and out of the lugs on your boot soles. Course he'll need a dozen eggs now and then. :lol:

We can for sure do some bartering :D While on the way I can head up to TN to clean the feed store for you. So far I clean a vet and a feed store locally, this is basically my only contact with real cattle men.

Just dont bring Mr. Clean w/ you. He gives me the creeps.I think he's queer.

I will bring my crew of topless french maids. Thought that might be a lucrative business idea to offer to men to clean their house, but wife would never let me do the interviews to get them hired :(

Aplus, I have repeatedly PM'd you. I have been awaiting the arrival of the "Maids"I had all the Guys down at the store making an extra big mess, so it would take them longer to visit us during the clean-up.Where are they?

My girls are just old enough to start getting into 4-H, they seem to ask about a different animal once every few weeks. I'll have to nip this one in the bud. Maybe I'll give in to the llama request

Why not get her/them a good steer or hfr to show. Have the Co. you manage to buy the steer at the local show in the spring.

I had an austrailian sheppard that was getting my MIL's rabbits. Didn't bother me any, was good sport to watch, but made MIL mad. And when that woman is mad, life is miserable.

So next time the dog got a sweet little bunny I took it and thumped (pun intended) her with it for a good while.

She won't even chase a wild rabbit now. But loves to eat cats!!!

Oh yeah! Many a kitten has gone to it's Maker by way of the Rat Terriers on this farm. But, they are bred to take small game and that's what they do!

I am bothered! Just because Mr. Clean is gay why can I not bring him? He is one of the best cleaners I have. I do not believe just because a guy is gay you should not let him have work. I grant you he does make you a little nervous the way he sneaks up on you from behind, and the way he hits me on the butt when I do a good job waxing an aisle and he just looks plum funny since he started wearing his Brokeback Mountain souvenir cowboy hat.

Since I like fresh eggs for breakfast, I bought 4 laying hens (white leghorn), and a domineck(spell check) yesterday.
Now i'm wondering what the little chicks would look like if I let one of the hens hatch out her eggs.

Only a couple things to make note of. A Dominique has a rose comb, most of those sold as Dominique are actaully barred Plymouth Rocks regular comb. White Leghorns have had the broody pretty well bred out of them and rarely set.
