yep, for what i pay for the longhorn cows, what they cost me, and even at the discounted price they bring, i do good. some just don't get it do they.

As to the bull, yes we used a longhorn bull as a heifer bull until this year. We like to keep the heifers that show a good longhorn cross to keep horn in the herd as well as ranging ability. Longhorns have tremendous stamina and can really range to find water.
The cows get topped with registered Angus bulls and produce some really nice beef. You guys with your show cattle laugh at us, but the longhorn does not hurt quality.

I would think that they are better off as momma cows. Seen few longhorn cross steers/bulls that has longhorn phenotype and they don't have enough meat.

I saw a 310 pound longhorn heifer come through the yard today. It brought $1.67. They aren't the bargain they used to be. I'd like to have had her to rope, she was slick as a gut and thick. Bred to a charlois bulll, she'd probably make a fine cow.

I have been paying 700 to 850$ for good 3 to 6 year old longhorns bred in the 3rd, most of them to Charolais bulls.

I think it has already gotten around, I am not finding near as many for those prices as I was, even a few weeks ago, and sure not as good of ones for the money.
