burst appendix

My dads burst when he was in WW2. He laid in a military hospital off an on up to eleven months. He had a draining tube in him for months trying to get all the poison/infection out and always said he was never the same after. It is a lot better to get it out before that happens.

Happened to me 64 years ago yes I survived. About 5 years a go was in the hospital for a blocked bowel. After surgery they discovered that the scar tissue form the appendectomy years ago had had strangled an intestine.

Ron, it was terrible. I didn't sleep or should I say couldn't sleep for 2 days due to the intense pain. I didn't listen to my better half and tried to tough it out. I will say...that was a mistake. I went to the doctor and they rushed me to the ER. I should know better. Now I am paying the price because I am completely inactive. At least I don't have fever, pain, and bowel problems anymore. And flooding the body with antibiotics. Thanks.

Was there any symptoms in advance such as mild pain or discomfort. You said you ignored some pain. Was that a month ago or just before the rupture? (I sent you a PM)

It is the worst stomach ache you can have starts out just like any other abdominal sickness. Hurting and finally some vomiting and you will begin running a fever. Once it bursts then you will really be in pain. There are people that have survived a ruptured appendix and survived but few and far between. The body has a way of healing it self at times.

About 10 days ago I had to be rushed to the hospital with a burst appendix. Wow...what an ordeal...Has anyone on here had this happen to them, and how long before they were back "at it"? I am about to go stir crazy sitting here "recovering"!

Tim

Went through the exact same thing 22 years ago. Spent 7 days in the hospital. Remember it well. Exactly as you described. Starts out like a stomach ache then progresses to virus like then to extreme sickness. Word of advice that most people probably automatically know but I didn’t at the time. If you have to sneeze..... brace yourself very well. I had about a 6-7 inch incision and have a pretty bad scar. But it doesn’t really bother me. Wish you a speedy recovery.
