I have 8 young Burr Oak trees, and 3 started producing acorns last year. All lost the acorns very early and I suspected Jays or squirrels. I netted some of the limbs this year to see if it would protect some of the acorns from being lost.

The acorns were growing well as the crop doubled, and I went out one day and all were gone. I found some on the ground.
The ones in the netting had fallen off as well, but were laying inside the net. There was no damage to the netting as it was left un-bothered.
The trees are not under any stress. The ground is moist, and they are growing well. It says it is a slow growing tree, but in a yard, they are growing about 5 feet a year.

I planted most of these trees from acorns, and they were huge, about the size of a small hen's egg. Does anyone have these trees, and do you have this problem with the acorns? I would love to know what is going on with the acorns.
