Yeah - don't get to see many of those.....I have zero experience evaluating dairy bulls based solely on the bull himself; I would prefer to judge a dairy bull by his daughters. Not what I expected when I opened this thread..........
 
TN -- like ANY dairy owner cares how much muscle a dairy bull has on his rear end. :roll:

vquinn -- how old is he? He appears to turn out on front and back feet, I'd want to see a much better topline on him, more masculinity in his head, neck, and IMO he ought to at least have a visible set of nuts on him. JMO. Otherwise, he's relatively long, definitely Jersey colored, and appears relatively mellow (since he's not pawing and bellowing in the pic, LOL). What are you using him for?
 
Cowboy is 20 months old. I have three jersey cows he 'takes care of'. He IS very mellow. But ya still never ever trust one. I think it's just the way he's standing that makes his feet look turned. Here's another front picture of him. (He's standing in the same place as before..so his feet still look turned) I was just messing around...since it's usually beef cattle you see on here...thought I would change it a bit..haha

He is really a mellow bull. Of course he's lookin across the hot wire 'wishin' sometimes too. He was a bottle calf--not sure if that had anything to do with his disposition or not. He has bred a first time angus heifer and a first time limo heifer I have. No calving problems. I have a jersey heifer that will be one in Sept. he'll 'meet' in December or so.
 
hes got rib thats about all i can see, weak top line, not the best feet and legs, hard to tell
 
Just a typical jersey. Won't improve any herd but for a dairy that does not raise replacements and only wants to get heifers or mature cattle bred, I guarantee he'll breed everything across the next 3 fences. :oops:
 
Waaaay back we had a Jersey bull on the little dairy operation my Folks had.

All I remember is, You didn't even walk insight of that bull while in the pasture, he would come getcha.

Dad couldn't get him loaded to sell. We were so happy when Dad shot him with the 30-30. :clap: :clap: :nod:

it's kinda ironic, that jersey bulls that look as frail and docile as they do. can be as dangerous as a cocked pistol.

Now, HERE, fellow Beef Cattle enthusiasts, is a terrific example of what some of us have been posting about "FUNNEL BUTT" genetics! Notice how the hindquarters of this bull appear shaped like a large FUNNEL! When you see Beef Cattle which display hindquarters similar to this bull's hindquarters you have an obligation to refer to it as "FUNNEL BUTT!" This example of phenotype of hindquarters should establish an image in every beef breeder's mind as to what NOT to select for a herd bull!

To preclude any retort or argument chastising me for not recognizing the difference between a Jersey Bull (Dairy) and ANY BEEF Bull, I hasten to say - I am very well aware of the differences between Dairy Phenotype and Beef Phenotype. This is just a perfect example of FUNNEL BUTT!

Iowahawkeyes-I do like the look of your bull. Seems as some jersey bulls go really dark as they get older. He has pretty color. Hard to think Cowboy could be that big in a couple of years. But he will need another set of 'girls' somewhere else by then. :) Thanks for sharing
