Bull with heifer calves - how long?

Two of my 13 cows are 9 month old heifers. I would like to leave the bull in with a couple of the cows who have been hard to heat detect and the herd is not big enough to conviently divide into many combinations.

What's a rule of thumb or just good judgement on separating the bull from young females? I don't want to breed them til they're about 15 months.

Thanks.

I would say that if your calves have Angus in them they will breed at 9 mos. I would be very leary about putting a bull in with 9 mo. old heifers if I didn't want them bred, and I would not want them bred.

Your calves should be weaned by now so I suggest you separtate them from the herd.

I have seen heifers come into heat at 7 or 8 months ( simmentals ) so if you don't want them bred you better move them , we seperate are heifers from the bull right after weaning at about 6-7 months
