Well, I have asked cowgirl8 valid questions and she ignores me everytime.
I asked if all of her cattle are related and does she have a record keeping system.

She seems to think that my comment about her bull having cat hams is funny. As I have said, it is her nickel, but with her children having shown cattle, she should know what I am talking about. I bet that she doesn't know what it means when a person says that a bull is short through the twist either. ;)

PS. Everyone is correct about a bull being waste-ey or too much leather under the neck. It is not desirable and you can be docked on your price. The processors do not like it.
 
Chippie and i keep telling you no they are not. I've said it over and over, we have 5 different herds...I've also told you that we dont keep bulls around for very long except the red simbra who keeps producing exceptional replacements and i know who his heifers are. Occasionally, like any registered breeder some related animals do breed, i'm not the first when it happens..
 
The cat ham comment was your assessment on one picture. I thought it was so funny that you were so serious about it. The only thing i can do is joke about it, its funny.

I guess there is an awful lot of us that breed "mongrels and mutts" then! Oh well, their just cows. :cowboy:
I am sure they will all taste good. :mrgreen:
 
We don't need piedmonteses I guess!

I will say we have too many "breeds" that are just crosses between 2 others, and too many of the traditional breeds getting bastardized into other colors and traits, while their original traits are lost. I can perfectly accept that my cattle are mutts, though I do try to get a certain "look" to the entire herd and not have a "box of crayons" like someone said a while back. I'm not quite there.. though in 10 years I think I ought to have a reasonably uniform herd... I'm aiming for gold/red, frame 6ish... I'm a "tit" man, they gotta have good udders, but as BrangusCowgirl said some time back "I like big butts and I cannot lie" applies to my cows as well... I guess in my case it'll be "I like big mutts and I cannot lie!"
 
As i strolled though my heifer herd yesterday evening, i saw that one of our 'NEW' registered angus bulls has blown out his penis. Happened last year with one of the registered bulls we had just bought. We bought the other guy to replace him, he had surgery and was put to work a year later and now his buddy has blown his out. These two purebreds are sure thousands of dollars of headaches. But dang, they have papers so i guess this makes them super special.

Not sure if we'll replace him. We figure most of the heifers should be bred. Ugh....We will have to replace a bull now.
 
Since this was the second bull from the same breeder like this after just a couple weeks out for breeding, vet said its likely genetic. So we'll have to have a good heart to heart to this breeder. Bull will likely need to be circumcised like the last and is out of commission for this breeding year :mad: . He's strapped up in a girdle at the vets until friday. But he feels he'll make a full recovery. I took the other young bull to have him checked out to see if his surgery was successful. He got a clean bill of health so back out he went. I also took a Uh Oh that did, didnt, did, didnt, did look bred. I've had her in the corrals for a month waiting. Nothing changed, but, that udder was suspicious. Figured i'd find out for sure since we had to get them up and i was going there anyway. Sure enough, 8 months and the calf is big. My vet suggested he induce labor where she'll calve by friday and he suggested i leave her there because a c-sections looked imminent...ugh....I have no idea who bred her, bulls were off, heifers were weaned and separated from anything with a weiner. No way anyone was near her, but obviously there was someone. If its not one thing its another.

I think its more the case of eager heifers...these two bulls were the busiest bulls. I had been trying to get pictures, but could never get a good one where they were just standing. The injury picture was taken as i was moving on my 4wheeler, was surprised it was a clear as it was...Even hurt the guy was giving it a go..

What is your Bull to Cow ratio? Are your heifers just all coming in at around the same time?
