Got up very early and again and looked though my sort phone pictures and came across a few i didnt know i had. I take a lot of pictures.. Anywho, came across i guess the only picture i have of :hide: BB Sr.. Here he is eating hay with all the other bulls in the bull pasture. The couple next to him are youngsters, but the red W/F (my fav bull) is no dinky....He's not the biggest bull, but BB sr makes him look small. Several years ago i lost every picture i took for many years when my computer crashed. I now have external storage to back up all my pictures. The small bulls next to him are, the smaller is a 14 mo old registered LBW angus we put on heifers. The one next to him is BB jr at weaning....lol....

This is one of our helper bulls this year out of the red w/f. He's 5 months here, he was the dinky calf that weighed around 50 at birth. I'd really like to use him on the younger cows in hopes of replacements. Small at birth, fast grower, what the buyers want at weaning...

Yes cowgirl as much as I do like your calves, I wouldn't want to add anymore leather in to your herd unless you had Brangus or Beef masters. When breeding my Brangus, that would even be pushing at too much skin for me. :D

He does look masculin, especially for his age, but yes, a whole lot of extra skin.... Perhaps bred to cows with no brahman influence it would be OK?

that skin might be good in tx heat..not an issue here if fl..we dont have alotta frostbite....but we do have 9 mos of 95+ degrees @ 90% humidity

The young bull is simbra/ brangus. So i'm guessing a little extra skin is allowed. This is what i want replacement heifers out of. He's just a year now, here he is yesterday
.
He's just a helper bull, nothing written in stone, but i want his genetics in our momma cows. His father makes awesome replacement cows, he's getting old though so i'd like to keep part of him.
And again, my main goal is birth to weaning. Getting as much growth as i can and ending up with a calf buyers want. Dont really care if my calves can enter the show ring, although, i did come across some pictures of the ones who did out of BB sr...

Since you want have a big WW in calves then that bull isn't right bull for that. I don't want have too much skin in steers if i want to sell the calves for feedlots. Since he's Brangus x Simbra, that's a breed regression and he has more Brahman influence in him than his parents. He may do more harm to your herd and wallet than do a good job for you.

His mother is the brangus part, sire is the red in the first picture, the simbra part. Bred to angus cows, this guys skin isnt going to matter. He weaned out at around 700 after starting out a peewee, looking for him to make some black w/f heifers, if i get bulls out of him i'm sure buyers are going to see a growthy calf. I think you guys worry too much about minor judging faults and forget the main goal is weight. Now if the calf looked more like a brangus, but, in person you see angus ears and a long wide black body. Think like a buyer.
Ex show commercial heifer, probably shown around 1996....good productive cow, easy keeper, easy going. Calves consistently small at birth but the biggest at weaning so i shouldnt have to worry about who i put him on.

I know you guys dont agree with how we run our place and i do appreciate input, but just be advised that nothing is going to change my mind. Take my word that we make plenty in our business and i get to have fun mixing this with that. I mean really, who wouldnt want my job (although i know a lot of ladies who would not just because of bugs, snakes, heat, cold, noise, no shopping, hardly any free time, my hair is always messy and my clothes make me look homeless most of the time).. I know many here dont, but i think a lot of our bulls and i'm very proud of them. Some work out, some dont, just like any bull with papers. So just take this into account when continuing to argue that my animals are mongrels.

Hi cowgirl8
Some people here are just pushing your buttons. Keep on posting pictures. I really enjoy them and I think your bulls will do fine. I do especially like the brangus/simbrah bull. And I can totally identify with your description on the hair/clothes etc...not a lot of women can live like this.

Cowgirl, as you said "nobody" is going to change your mind so I really don't guess I understand why you're even here. You have nothing but pictures to offer and nobody cares how much money you make off cows or anything else. Give us all a break and visit http://www.ranchers.net . The big operators hang out over there. They have big herds and big country. Who knows, you might find a niche.

So why are any of you here? Am i not allowed here if i also post pictures as many do? People do come here to learn and there are other views besides yours. If you dont like the threads i start, dont look at them.

Most of us are here to learn, meaning we are open to change that will improve our operations especially when it is coming from others who have already seen the changes make vast improvements not only in the quality of their herd but the bottom line. You have definitely ruled out changing anything in your operation (your words). All that's left is pictures and your braggadocio.

I believe i've asked questions and i've given advice. I dont believe i've ever seen you ask a question other than sarcastic ones. I will repeat though, i will not take business advice from people who are not familiar with our operation. Just as you probably wouldnt take advice on your operation from the little knowledge given here, dont expect everyone that enters to take yours. You've said your peace, be done with it and move on.

cowgirl , don't let them get to you. they are mostly all against anything with brahma crossed in. even the university of Missouri tells them they need to cross some brahma into their herds up here & I have for years & my cattle usually outsell the others. I also buy bulls with low birthweight & explosive weight gain after that. you are doing a great job & I would buy that bull anyday. go with your own ideas as they are definitely working. good luck & post anytime, it is not their site

Thank you.....yes, what they cant seem to understand that my bulls serve me a purpose, each one. This one, replacements. I want to keep a tad of brahma in my momma cows. I know this bulls history, i know how he grew and not from a sheet of paper, i witnessed it day by day. I know how every one of his half sibs grew...
Its kind of like they think from a few pictures that they know what i'll get at the sale. I keep reminding them what sells is a growthy calf, grow calves that look like they will grow after they are weaned, they will sell for a good price. Buyers are not looking for the perfect, in these peoples eyes, calf. They are looking for poundage they can get out of the calf. So effin what it has a flappy neck, i guarrantee that person eating at Cattlemans restaurant isnt sending back his steak saying, "I can tell this calf's mother had too much skin." "This steers sheath was a little dangly." "The sire of this steak had kitty hams." lol
My goal is to grow calves who hit the ground alive and grow. I want a nice long wide calf.. These bulls give me that and there is no way anyone here can tell me different from behind their computer.
I'm glad there is someone out there that sees my vision.

But isn't the buyers wanted to see less skin on the calves for feedlots? That's why they prefer calves with a dash of Brahman, not a 1/2 or high percentage Brahman. Like I said it before, mongrelizing may do harm to your profit and it appeared that you are selecting for a single trait (big wean weight).

This young bull will be bred to sim/angus cows. Will pretty much wash out most of the brahman traits in his calves. His daughters, will have brahman traits i like in momma cows and will be bred to sim/angus bulls. I juggle my cows, something i guess some of you guys cant understand. They are not all in one big herd.. I have 5 herds, all have their purpose..
And, i have a question....If its true that buyers dont want any brahman in their feeder calves, then why are there people who go for these breeds, brahman, brangus, simbra...etc... Do they raise the stock to lose money? Wouldnt it be better to have a bit of what you like about the breed and keep just a tad of it mixed in?

And the same to you "lady "

Cowgirl only you truely know what is going on with you herd, no one else.

Some people here are so accustom to giving advise, that they open their mouths before they know if that advise is even warranted or asked for. I probably do it myself at times. :D
I think that it is assumed that when you post pictures that you want feed back. Hence TB asking "why are you here" if you do not want the comments.
It is a vicious cycle with you and TB, so I suggest you each go to a different corner. (Unless the two of you just like to argue!) Don't bother to comment on each others posts! (There is a member here that I stay away from also. Don't read and don't comment.) Simple! :D

BTW- I agree with you about putting that bull on Angus for dilution of the Brahman influence. I really watch the leather on my Brangus, because here they will get docked. Even with registered cattle sold privately. Just had a discussion with a Brangus bull breeder about that today. Seriously, a Brangus bull is going to sell for $1,000 or more less than an Angus bull. Even if the Brangus is a much better bull. It is sad.
