I know some don't like crossbred bulls but he's out of a reg black angus cow and a reg polled hereford bull.This bull is 3 yr.old and I also have his half brother that's out of a brangus cow and the same hereford bull,he's a black baldie.
I'll try to get some more pictures.

I'm thinking if he is then he should continue using his sire as long as he can still mount a cow, even if you have to feed him porridge because he doesn't have teeth anymore! Prepotency like that is hard to come by.

Yes,my uncle had all black cows most are registered angus then he switched from reg angus bulls to two reg hereford bulls and this bull was the best calf out of that first bunch of calves.Even though most of his cows are purebred they have some red baldie along with the black baldie calves.

He is NOT out of a registered blk Angus cow. If he was he would be black with a white face or a variation of that. Registered Angus are homozygous black. for him to come out red there had to be a red carrier on the bottom side also.
You have the same thing my friend has this year. She has a solid black commercial cowherd and put a couple of HH bulls on them last year. Out of the 50 or so calves they could have sired at least 7 of them came out red. Their mothers although black were red carriers. My friend did some record searches and in some cases the red gene was 4 or 5 generations back.

I should have noticed this the first post. You have in effect answered your own question. If he is getting red baldies it's because the cows are NOT purebred Angus.

I should have noticed this the first post. You have in effect answered your own question. If he is getting red baldies it's because the cows are NOT purebred Angus.

Am I wrong then in thinking that the original Scottish stock included red carriers? Or is it a rule of registration that the animal has to be homozygous black?

There have always been - and still are - some registered Angus cows and bulls that carry the gene for red coat color. AAA will not allow registration of 'red' calves, but will register red-carriers, and denotes known red carriers on their pedigree.
Not all registered Angus are homozygous black

If I were breeding a bull with white feet to a cow from a breed where white feet is unheard of; and getting a calf with white feet, I would be suspicious to say the least.
Have anyone heard of reg angus cattle, red or black, throwing white feet?

I'm almost positive he said this bull is out of a reg blk angus cow.
Now my black cows throw red and black out of this bull and he has bred my 13 reg blk angus so I'll find out if they all throw black but I'm curious on two of the reg heifers because they will be two years old at the end of july and they still have a little reddish tint on their top sides.
I have one black cow that had a nice blk baldie heifer last year out of this bull but this march had a red baldie bull calf,same cow and same bull explain that? :???:

The laws of genetics. It's a perfect example of a red gene in the woodpile!

As far as the reddish tint that is more likely a minerals problem than genetic
