My Charolais heifer dropped this bull calf last Saturday,
this is my first calf bred and owned and I was wondering what to
look for in a bull.

Nice looking little bull calf! When he gets to be about 3 months old he should be at a point of growth to give you a fair idea of how he will look as a mature bull. After 3 months, it has been my experience that they start to grow and go out of balance for a while. The hardest thing for me when trying to decided to keep a calf a bull or keep a heifer calf is barn blindness. Meaning it's hard not to like the calf so much you miss flaws in the animal ie; barn blindness. Good luck with your first bred and owned calf!

Just my :2cents:, there are lots of bulls out there and steer are much more safe to be around.

That's a very good question and one I'm not qualified to answer. Glad you ask, Allen put up a good answer and hopefully someone else will answer too. We have some very good bull raisers on here.
