What do you guys do to save time while building a fence? My dad and I have been working on refencing and it is a slow go! We have our bobcat with an auger on it to drill holes for the brace posts and corner posts. We have access to all the old utility poles that we want so we haul them home, cut them to size, and put protectant over them to make sure they dont rot out. I have seen the highway department use some type of t post driver mounted on a bobcat? Putting the t posts in my hand gets pretty old are a few especially when the ground is dry or frozen!

if my memory is correct you can get a hydrolic post driver.an use that to drive the T posts.

the highway department up here in missouri has some that go on a bobcat but they drive the real big metal square posts like what is used for guard rails and stop signs. do they make one for a bobcat that will drive t posts? what do you think they cost? probably more than i care to pay? lol

ive seen some post drivers for $450.the prices vary on the drivers.

I cut a 2 inch pipe to the finished length of T-Post sticking out above ground. Hence the pipe is about 5 foot. I slide the pipe over the T-Post and push it in the ground with the front bucket until the top of the T-post is even with the pipe. The pipe keeps the T-post from deflecting if you hit a root. Without the pipe, you would bend up a lot of T-posts. It only works in ground that is free of limestone layers or else the limestone layers are deep enough to allow it to work.

We have a "high and heavy hitter" hydraulic post pounder that we pull behind the tractor or pickup and can put in a GOOD corner system in about 5-10 minutes. I'm talking one corner post, brace post and horizontal brace and then the wire that ties them together.

then we just drive down the line and put in our steel and wood post with the hydraulic pounder.

when you slide the pipe over the t post do you have problems getting them lined up straight?

how much have you guys paid for your actual post hole drivers? ive been looking them up online for the past hour and something for a bobcat that is hydraulic runs for 5-8 thousand dollars. I would have to do a hell of a lot of fencing to justify that but then again both my farms could be refenced!

I use a hand held pneumatic driver. Seems like it ran about 450 buks then you need an air compressor. I've driven posts all day with it where I can only do a bout 5-6 by hand before I need to take a break

I pull them out with the bobcat. my problem is getting them in the ground. i might try to pipe trick. i cant imagine spending all that money for one that mounts on my bobcat!

Ive never bent a one yet.

I have. There is so much flag stone pieces below ground in these parts and I have also hit roots. That is why I went to the pipe and it works great for me. I pull the same way you do, straight out is indeed the key.

If I am doing it solo, I start the post straight before I push it in. Some times I will start several and go back and push them in individually. Just depends on the circumstances. You can fly if there are two of you working them in.
