broken hoof

i have a heifer thats has a hoof broken off short on one of the front toes and it seems to be really sore.
she still gets around but tender and slow.
is there anything i can do to help her out?

If she is really slow, you might consider moving her to a smaller pasture until her toe grows out so she doesn't have to travel as far for food and water. If she isn't slow enough to warrant that, just keep an eye on her and give her some time.

Some cattle companies make hoof boots specifically for cattle. I am not sure where to get these, but maybe someone on the board knows where. This may help reduce the amount of pain your cow is in plus it will reduce the amount of dirt and bacteria that gets into the hoof. Good luck!

Here is a link to the cattle hoof boots. They recommend buying an adhesive to keep them on, but I find that duct tape works just as well.
