Simply Curious:
-For all you purebred breeders out there if you had to switch your herd out for a different breed what would it be and why?

From Longhorns? hmm...

I'd go with Red Angus. I just like 'em. I like red a lot more than black. and think they have the quality, and design that i prefer. Always have. But would have to consider beefmasters.

If we switched from Red Angus and Polled Herefords we'ld probably go Polled Hereford Red Angus

We are switching from limo's to herefords. We really liked the South Devon as well. It was all about temperment.

Brahman X Herford females and then go back with an Angus bull

I like those F1 females and black baldy calves. I think they do well in this part of the country.

If I switched from Horned Herefords and Angus bulls, it would be to Polled Herefords and Red Angus bulls. Actually, it's getting to the point that I have more Herf x Angus cows than pure Herfs. I have tried other breeds of bulls over the years, and for my area, the only cows I might swap out for would be Hereford x Gert or Hereford x Brangus with Charolais or Fleckvieh bulls.

There are other breeds that I like-Brahmans, Horned Herefords, Beefmasters and crosses of these breeds but I wouldn't ever switch from Longhorns. Just can't see it happening. :cboy:

if i couldnt have beefmasters i wouldnt mind having brahmans, brangus, red angus, black angus, it doesnt really matter the breed, i just like cattle.

I'd rather fight, than switch! J/K

I don't ever see me getting out of longhorns completely, but if I ever sold the herd down, I would probably have an olio of cattle.

F1's
Brahma's
Pinz
Murrey's (just for Springer and Msscamp) :D

I just got done switching from primarily Angus to Shorthorn, but if I had to do it again, it would be Red Poll. Too many people discount the value of the old breeds, and I've never been sold on exotics, except to cross as a terminal.
