After heifers calve what percentage breed back? I have heard it is very low . Can someone shed some light?

With proper management 100% will breed back. Using a bull to minimize the possibility of dystocia for the first calf and proper nutrition pre and post calving and they'll breed back just like the cows will. If they are properly grown out before breeding and fed properly they'll generally calf unassisted, raise the calf and start cycling within the same time frame as the cows will.

Ditto - right on. 100%

Actually, 2nd calf heifers are the hardest age group to breed back. They bred back as a first calf heifer, than raised a calf all summer while still growing. Usually, they are the lowest body condition score at calving time, so they are the hardest to breed back. Body condition is number one key to getting them bred back.
This is why I keep my 2 & 3 year olds together seperate from the cows during the winter. They get the best feed & the most.

All of mine have bred back with no trouble, (knock wood). As dun and Jeanne have stated, good management is the biggest factor to getting them to breed back, or get any of them bred in a timely fashion for that matter.
