I prefer buying bred heifers. If they are confirmed bred, properly vaccinated, have been pelvic scored, etc. Meeting those criteria means buying from the producer or at a sponsored special heifer sale that requires these criteria to met.
Bred cows and heifers in California at some of the bred stock sales the last couple weeks for the front end is $2,200 or so on the cows and $2,000 on the heifers.
