Boomless Sprayers

Help Support CattleToday:

Jogeephus,
I hope you are still haunting this forum. I found it by accident and your fabrication pics are just what I had in mind. Are you using an electric or roller pump?

Talk about going to an awful lot of trouble to build a sprayer (and then never using it)--I can't imagine using this going into the wind and eating all that herbicide. And a no fold boom? I guess all that works, but there's something to be said for "keep it simple" IMO.

On #2 you could drill a hole into the pvc and put and elbow on it and stick a piece of clear tubing on this and run it up to another fitting on top. This would allow you to have a sight gauge for the chemical. It'd be easy and cheap.

If your wick doesn't have this, you may also want to take some of the rough tape that they use on steps and stick this on the tube. The abrasive action of the tape will scratch the surface of the leaf and make for a better kill. It doesn't sound like much but it is worth the trouble.

on 1, I'm bad with remembering numbers but it seems like 300 mesh is what I have but I'm not sure.

i'd say 100 would be too fine.
unless your using a small nozzle/orfice(02 and smaller) 50 mesh should be plenty.
like jo stated a clear hose, drill hole in pvc, attach hose with grommets for a sight gauge.
edit
imo banjo strainers are the best

The boominator nozzles have bigger droplets that help with wind drift but boom type sprayers work better in windy conditions. I use a boomless sprayer but I usually try to spray late in the evening when possible. It wouldn't work for everyone everywhere.

Outback S-Lite™ GPS Guidance System. At a fraction of the cost of competitive GPS Systems, the S-Lite is the affordable solution for your operation.

Would this be a necessary with a fifty foot boom-less nozzle. About $750 at several places on the net. I have trouble with a thirty foot boom less.

The problem with the GPS units is that they don;t react fast enough when you make a turn. I had one and got rid of it and put a foam marker on. Cheaper, more accurate and you don;t have to waste time at the turns for it to catch up.

Almost bought a 300 gal trailer mounted rig, but it wasn't road ready, and would have been after dark by the time I drove the 100 miles back home. After looking at a ton of 'off the shelf' sprayers, I decided to build one.

I picked up:
1. a 6 roller Hypro pump,with a spring hangar and coupling.
2. a cheap looking regulator I don't think I'll be happy with.
3. One of these multi valves:

4.One of these clusters:

5. A crapload of tees, ells, nipples and 25' of 3/4 hose.
6. Filter strainer.
7. 0-200 3" face press gage.

I'm re-decking an old 4x8 single axle trailer I previously used to haul a welder and torch set around the place, and have a tote I'll mount on it.
If I'm not happy with the cluster setup, it should be easy enough to go a different route--short boom or different nozzles..
I intend to take pics all along the way, and you guys please feel free to comment, advise, suggest, critique, criticise, ridicule or otherwise comment on anything you wish.
(believe me--I ain't gonna get offended)

GB I also have one of these nozzle's as they are easier to set up to spray in a 90 deg pattern, great for spraying fence lines.
