I got a Brahman heifer that had her first calf and about 6 weeks after birth, her teates became inflamed and raw. The skin acutally started to sluff off. I just thought it might be from the calf but then I got to thinking it might be from a tetany or fever of some kind. Does anyone know of such? I want to get her up and put some salve on her bag but really don't know what to do. We are gong to work the cattle soon and the vet will be there so I guess I could get him to look but in the mean time the calve isn't getting enough milk.

If I wouldn't know better I would say she got frost nipped but being she is a Brahma I am guessing your not in a cold climate.

If she doesn;t have very much milk it could be the calf nursing them till they;re raw. Or if there are other calves around they could be helping themselves and irritating the teats.
