6 Teats?

Got a pregnant heifer who has 6 teats (4 normal size and 1 small nub on each side at the rear). Basic question would be, Why?

Not sure why, but it's quite common. Extra teats can be removed from heifer calves when they're small or left alone. We leave ours alone and have never had a problem.

Only time I've sen them cause a problem was dairy cows with blind teats that intrferred with the milkers getting on right

I had a few 5 titters when I was miking and rarely did the extra quarter (or technically fifth) produce any milk. It was just for looks!

Thanks for the info, folks. Puts my mind at ease. Never noticed until she started to get longer teats from being heavy bred.
