I just bought 925 acres in utah desert and mountain land. The property came with 384 head of Reg herf and about 74 brafords with 12 brahman ulls and 2 red angus x simm bulls. The land is great with a house on it and i just dont know what to do with the cattle. I hired day workers and some friends to go with me and round everything up and brand them and put new ear tags (all steers and heifers were sold beside 2 heifers) we rounded them up and it was a 12 mile ride to the nearest pens from the top off the mountain. I have ordered some pens online and will have them welded by july 15. Now i am thinking about selling all my gerts and keeping the cows on this new property and buy 30 mares to put on the land i had my gerts on. Any suggestioms on what to do with all this cattle?

If you're on Utah desert there is no way 925 acres will support 472 animals. Even if they were Corriente that much land in the desert would be impossible for those numbers. You must have a BLM or National Forest lease. Is your real estate irrigated hay ground or improved pasture? Fenced and cross fenced? Water sources?

You'll probably be selling at Producers Livestock in Salina. How far away are you from there?

I don’t know why i said Utah its actually west Texas by the sixes. The “desert” is really good grass but has parts of sand on it. It is called the desert by the locals. I just found a storage barn with semen straw tanks and i just hit the jackpot. In it was semen labeled as “take a pick” who was an aqha champion and owned by the RA Brown ranch that died about a week ago. So I’m gonna test it to mak sure it really is his and if so im gonna make a lot of money with colts next year

Da@mn. I wouldn’t think there was any place in Texas that would support a cow per 2 acres. That’s great.

we only ever have about 6-7/8 of the cattle out at once because we have a calving lease so calves are put there after weaning aswell as an older pipe fenced feedlot on the property that holds 150-200 cows on it.
