I watched some big lots sell yesterday. They said the ranch brought in over 500 head. I put the biggest bunch of heifers to memory. 191 head which averaged weighing 567 that sold for $3.87. They ran in 40 head weighed them, ran them out, ran in another 40, and repeat 5 times until they had them all weighed (ring scale). Then they sold. Took about 9 minutes total. They did the same thing with a bunch of steers. I remember they weighed 605. Well over $4 and around 150 head. Some smaller bunch which were bigger and smaller. I am sure it was a nice check to take to the bank.

How old were these calves?
I have no idea. They don't announce that. My guess would be that they are fall calves. I saw on Superior a guy from south of here had some fall steers that weighed 650. Our February calves are lighter than these were. But they weren't yearlings. I think they were weaned 30 days if I remember correctly.
