OK, I don't disagree with any of the candidates (don't think I ever listened to Metallica, however).
But the question asks "Rock and Roll" guitar. To me, Keith Richards is the standard to which others are compared!
Concerned that I might be wrong, I just listened to "Gimme Shelter" from the album "Let in Bleed" from 1969. Thank goodness, I'm still right. The man defines "Rock and Roll".
 
Can't forget Ted Nugent's Stanglehold. That feller sho nuff can play. Recordings don't capture his live sound or energy.
