I am going to plant one small pasture, about eight acres. What is a hearty grass suited for cattle ? Your advice would be appreciated. Thanks Tom

Your're gonna have to give us more info. What part of Alabama? How much are you looking to spend? You can sprigg hybrid bermuda if you wanna spend the money and one of those will be the best.If you cant afford that you can seed bahia or possibly fescue if you're in the north. They're could be several options but we need more info.Location, what's there now and soil conditions to name a few.Good luck.

In light of the high fertilizer and fuel costs, I would lean toward Tift 9 bahia if it will grow where you are. Bahia has steady growth for many months. Its called "poor man's grass" here cause it doesn't require a lot of fertilizer or care. Its kinda like the energizer bunny, it just keeps growing and growing. Its not the best grass but it does have a lot of good points. Other options listed are more productive and better - if you don't mind more intensive management. It really depends on what you want to do.
