A 3-week-old Hereford calf that we have is balding. I only noticed the hair loss on his face. Could it be mange or heat or is it worse than that? I don't know much about a problem like this. Like I said it was born proably 3 maybe 2 weeks ago and its a Hereford bull calf.

Could be a whole bunch of things:

Lice - not likely but possible

Mange - rare in healthy cattle but possible - need more info

Ring worm - not enough info

Dry skin - itchy and being rubbed off.

Need more symptoms.

Probably not an issue - will grow back.

If it is worrisom - Have you asked a veterinarian? If not, why not?

Just a phone call.

Regards,

Bez

Maybe pour him with dectomax? Spray some skin conditioner on him, don't know the name of the foo-foo spray the Mrs. has, but it's from sullivan's, in a blue and white aerosal can. She made the mistake of POURING the diesel fuel permethrin mix for the rubs ON a calf and fried his hair right off. A little spray and he looked great with in 2 weeks.

Thanks for the input guys. Appreciate it. I didn't think it was bad enough yet to ask a vet and I'll look for the foo-foo spray.

Thanks again,
Nate
