They make a service valve that can be soldered on the crimped off port easily, then it needs to be pressurized with nitrogen to find leak. If it is low on refrigerant it has a leak somewhere. 134 refrigerant is fairly cheap. Might be worth checking into getting it looked at. Sometimes it's hard to find the leak or isn't worth repairing.
