Hi everyone... can I get some unbiased opinions of this bullcalf? He's soon to be "steered" but as I have an untrained eye, I'd like to know his faults. Does he have a funnel butt? He is just 4 months old, and is Shorhorn x Maine/Angus. I'm sure some of you get tired of being asked this but I really do appreciate it. Thanks!

I'll try to give another shot of him.

Here's another view.......

Sometimes these darn pictures come out nice and big and sometimes they're small.... wish I could figure it out to give you a better look!

He looks like he has some potential. I really wish he carried muscle down through is lower quarter though. He seems to have a decent top on him and fairly good bone size. Not too bad.

He was 4 months old on Monday. He was a bottle baby... mother accepted his twin/rejected him. We got him at 1 week old. He's eating grain really well. I'm trying to learn my way around assessing them... what are their good points/bad points so thanks for your opinion.

Calf looks long enough bodied and necked, but appears a bit tubular to me from the pictures. I prefer more rib dimension and potential for depth of body even at that young age. Also, I would like to see more muscle in the lower quarter. As a steer you can get by with some roundness in the hip if it is offset by incredible amounts of muscle. I see roundness without the muscle, which may not be fixable even with feed and exercise. Back legs look a little off to me as well. Price is right though. Good luck.

Thanks for everyone's comments. I'm trying to "see" what you "see". Do you think leaving him a bull a while longer will help any of this? I've heard the hormones do them well... so I've waited to cut him but am wondering if I should just go ahead and do it or if there's any advantage to waiting (as far as his development). Thanks again.
