bulls around 650 heifers 575 to 600 like I said I like the SAV bulls but in our heat and humidity and washy grass don't expect to get the weaning weights they achieve at SAV. I will have a few hit the 700 lb weaning mark but for the most part they hit the 650 to 670 range. The calves are not creeped they are creep grazed but not grained.
I have dabbled in a bit of SAV genetics and still have cows by Thunderbird, Renown, Resource and Rainmaster. They are all great cows and wean calves in my top half but yes the EBV's of certain traits take a bit of a hammering like BW and IMF, this is a less of a problem now that I am breeding for myself and not for selling bulls but I do still like to keep an eye on the EBV's. It made me cringe a bit when one of my Renown cows had a heifer calf last year by DB Iconic that weighed 52kg (115lb), she is one I've earmarked to keep, I'm waiting on the genomics for the heifer, it will be interesting to see which way the EBV's move.
