Man, between Jo's clover and all you guys showing green, I was none too happy taking care of my spring tradition today. Even you guys rolling in mud dont have my sympathy. March 14 and today I had to take the sled out to fence off the runoff pond. Yea, a little too slushy and a little too slow is not a good combo. For those who have seen the list of top recorded snowfall in the country this year, my town is smack dab in the middle of a triangle between three of the top 5, Copenhagen, Redfield, and Pulaski, NY. When I got off the sled, its safe to say the family jewels still get cold when you are walking through this stuff. I don't mind it right up until March 1. Then I've had enough. Oh well, only 2 more months and we will be grazing again. Two calfs on the ground this week and all is well.

Another foot and a half of snow coming here tomorrow. We had 9 or 10 ft so far this winter, and it was just starting to melt.

Trust me, when I buried that sled I had the jacket, and hat off and was sweating like a one legged man in a butt kicking contest. I probably dont really need to fence that pond off but I do. I am truly a low input, low fuss guy but I hate seeing calves walk around the mud for a month and seeing mommas drinking runoff. I'm doing the opposite of most of the world and trying to back my cows up a bit every year until I'm calving in first week of May. I think should happen next year. But its supposed to be in the 30-40's all week so its not bad calving weather and its still pre-mud for another 3 weeks.

Yea, we are supposed to get a few inches tomorrow but gonna be warm this week. I think we are roughly at 16-18' this year of snow. Possible we hit 20'.

Yikes... Here in Minnesota we've had 50's and 60's since the first week of March, and we're supposed to be the cold snowy place! Good luck!

I wished the cows calved earlier this year... Feb 1st would have been great.. I can deal with the weather we have, it's not that bad even on bad years, but I don't think I could handle shoveling snow for 5 months of the year, and in the quantities you get... Around here I plowed a little snow (7") once, and it was the first time in a couple years I bothered.

Calving starts March 24th for me, Aside from a few heifers already, who are in a barn.

Record high temperatures here lately, and a threat of drought. Very little snow pack in the mountains.
