A balancer is gelby/angus cross. What is a simm/angus or maine/angus?
A Simm/Angus is 1/2 Simmental and 1/2 Angus.
A Maine/Angus (or MainTainer) is 1/2 Maine/Anjou and 1/2 Angus. Those are the 'beginnings' of a Crossbreeding system(s) with various combination of breeds resulting in "Composites", or individuals comprised of varying percentages of two or more breeds of cattle. This is done to capitalize on the Heterosis advantages of crossbreeding.

A registered Maintainer can have as little as 1/8 Maine Anjou and can be ANY other breed.
A SimAngus is a registered Simmental that is at least 1/2 Simmental and 1/2 Angus, but can be 3/4 Simmental & 1/4 Angus. Also, many commercial Simm x Ang are referred to as SimAngus.
SimAngus is not a breed association - it's a name put on Simmental registration papers.
I believe Balancers are their own breed association, and I believe Maintainers are registered thru the MaineAnjou Assn. (but they may be their own breed assn.)

Balancers far under the Gelbvieh association It doesn't matter if its red or black angus cross
