Our county fairs & State Fair in Arkansas start in Sept/Oct. How old do the animals need to be to show/compete in the Junior stuff? We have some calves that were born first of Feb 2008?

Our county fair is the first of Sept and our steers are born around Feb of the previous year. That is for market steers it depends on what your showing and what your local rules are.

In Arkansas, as far as heifers and bulls go, you should be able to show them at any age up to 2 year. There may be a few exceptions to allow you to show them up to 30 months. It really doesn't matter how young they are. Of course, you wouldn't want to show a baby. I would say they would need to be at least 4 months old unless they are part of a cow/calf pair.

Check out the arkansas state fair website.

If your wanting to show market animals in the junior shows, you need to check your county/state rules for weight minimums. We have a 900 lb. - 1000 lb. min. at most Texas county adn state shows. You will NEVER make it with a Feb. 08 calf, if you have these type minimums. We have shown several Feb. calves and we are pushing them to get to 1000 lbs. by Jan-March of the following year. Hope this helps. :D
