Given a normal year under normal conditions, (if there is such a thing), at what age do you typically wean your calves?

No set age, usaully 6-7 months or in that ballpark. Mostly it's based on when they need to be at the backgrounders and still allow at least 45 days weaning period

I dont go mostly by age either, I look at them for size mainly, frame, muscle..etc. But usually if they are around 6-8 months they are shipped.

I can't even remember what a normal year should be like

If conditions allow around 8 months seems to be ideal for my conditions. In an extremely good year add a month or 6 weeks, as a rule in a drought everything over 4 months are weaned. Lately that 4 months weaning seems to be the norm here.
