abcess, mass?

Hi: I have this first calf heifer that came in the other day, with a huge mass/abcess or something else, on her right side, by her ribs. it seems to be getting bigger, any ideas?

Rule of thumb from the old folks:

If it's soft, stick a knife in it.

If it's hard, take her for a ride.

Its soft, but not too soft, 8in by 5inches, sorry i don't have a digital camera. Thinking about sticking a needle in there and aspirating, to see what is inside. Might wait a day or so, it is extremely hot here right now, don't want it to be a draw for flies/maggots. Doesn't seem to be bothering her though.
