Need any info on caring for a 4day old holstien that was rejected by the mother. Using milk supplement but she only takes about a pint per feeding. Can walk around but lies most of the time. Some solid feces at first but slight brown diaherra. Will treat as if it has scours. Finding alot of conflicting info on how much/often to feed. Would like to correspond with someone with expierence. Please e-mail me.

Are you using a milk replacer that is made from milk or milk by-products? Stay away from the soy based replacers. Is it that the calf won't nurse, or that it can't? Is it getting dehydrated? If so, you will need to tube feed it. Does it have a fever? Did it get adequate colostrum? At 4 days you should introduce a high quality calf starter grain. These are all issues that can affect a calf and need to be resolved before any meaningfull progress can be made.
