You'd think they would all be jumping crazy witches. But when ya finally get em in a pen, they calm right down as long as ya don't mess with em. I sure wouldn't get in a pen WITH them. They'll run ya over. Never seen any of em even attempt to jump or go under.
They either run. Or come right at ya!
I think they'd just as soon try n go straight thru

I did try to buy some PeeWee's back yesterday, but they weren't giving anything away yesterday. Even with the crazy volatile market, people are still in need of good calves!

I've given thought to selling this bull, as he ain't great for sure. But dog gone he's easy to get along with. I went and fed last eve and don't have a problem walking in the pen with him and my 3 remaining cows. All easy easy going. I watch him for sure. But super easy going. Perhaps selling him and the heifer i have left could buy me a better bull next May. With the bull talk in another thread tho, I'm not giving 8-25k for a stinking bull. I don't care if his nuts are made of gold.

I see you take some pretty bad trainwrecks and turn them into gold. But you have three cows? And at what point will you have twenty or more which might justify a better bull? Do you like his calves? If so, keep the **it out of him and don't worry about spending money on something that may only be 5% "better" but more money. 5% at substantially more money might be justified with twenty cows that you are going to wean calves off of and sell as a group, but it doesn't make a lot of sense with small numbers. And you seem to change things up a lot. But you make it work. If you like the bull... keep the bull.

I've been thinking pretty hard on it. Yeah. Just my 3 pet cows for now. I'll buy something when the time is right. I've really given thought to buying some heifers to breed and re-sell. This bull is supposed to be real good for that.
Seems to be a non starter for me tho. Gotta have a bit of a reputation to sell quality bred heifers.
I'll probly buy some more pairs or short breds to re-sell as heavy breds this spring. I'd like to flip twice a year.

I wouldn't sell that bull. He's young, easy to get along with, gets the job done and it's not like you're looking to get into the breeding stock game. If he will do his job and not be a pain, what's the point of selling him only to go thru the same brain damage you went thru to buy him to buy his replacement. Other than not feeding him for a few months, I just don't see the advantage of selling him and then scrambling to buy his replacement and who knows how much money.

Couple pics today. I've been trying to figure why he's losing a bit of condition. He showed me his teeth today. Or lack of, I should say. Lil guy is becoming an adult. No bottom teeth!

Picked these 2 up today. 8x5 thin cows. @Dave What ya think? One n done I hope!
1160 dollars less than I sold 7x5s for. Super gentle too.

I went totally unprepared today. Had no idea they'd have so many cows. Usually only a couple at this sale.
Wrong truck. No supplies. No trailer. My buddy close by let me borrow his. They'll be worked next weekend for sure!
Might even have time tomorrow amongst putting hay out.

$1640 each. I was looking at the pics in your thread and your cows are bigger deeper bodied cows than these 2.
They had an 0x4 that was super nice but I quit a lil over $2000. Kinda kicking myself now. There'll be more somewheres....

Most of my cows weigh 1,150 - 1200 lbs. I did notice on the several cow that were bred right so they are sticking around for another year, they filled the chute more than the ones I have been buying. The two I got on Thursday are a lot fleshier than most of the others.

The cow in the video....
We were standing by the barn out of the way when they finally flushed her out into the open. She came FLYING by, with the guy on his horse hot on her tail and rope a swinging. I swear that cow was outrunning the horse for a bit. I got up top just in time to see him throw rope. I'm not kidding. That dern cow jumped THRU the loop and he caught her around the belly. Dangdest thing I'd seen in a while! The gal was there shortly after to get a rope around her neck and it was all over in the blink of an eye......

This older cow (I call her Curly Sue) is getting close. Ultrasounded 5 mo when I got her and her pasture mate. The other one don't look close yet.
However Curly Sue is walking pretty stiff on all 4. Hopefully we don't strike out with this one. All she's gotta do is raise this one for me.
More condition would be nice, but she didn't lose it overnight, as they say. Takes a while to get em back in shape. Grass is coming gal!! Hang in there!

Yes. She was called an 8 yr old. There is pics a page back I think. U could count ribs when I got these two. The one to the right in the springing pic is the 2nd cow. (Edited. Wrong pic. Disregard) Both still pretty thin.
This was the day I got em. Pretty darn rough. But coming along slowly I think. What say u?

Well you like the tough cases, and I think this is one of those. If she's been with you three months by now and she hasn't gained more I'd think about cutting her loose. She looks better than she did, but she's pretty bony. Maybe she's a dairy cross?

She is not an attractive cow for sure. Kinda tall n lanky. Thin in the middle. I was honestly wondering if she was even bred!! The gal that checked her uses ultrasound and I trust her tho.
