Found a place, now how to afford it.

If you can find a way to finance go for it. Don't be afraid of losing it. I know the heartache losing. But I'm only sorry for the deals I never made.

    Moldy Hay Hazard ?

I have seen eat moldy hay and moldy silage rather than the good stuff. I never worried about it, until last fall when I started feeding hay. We had a bale that the roof leaked on and it was half good, half bad. I told my son to just set it on the ground and let the cows eat what they wanted of...

    BULL PRICE

I have seen several sales on rfd this spring. Seems like a lot bulls bring less than the floor they set, usually $1500. To me, these bulls have good numbers, good pedigrees and appear to have no major flaws. But that is what I see in the 30 secs. they are on the screen. I think good bulls can...

When it rains ..... it pours

Sorry for your bad luck. If I lose a cow i would like the vet standing right beside me. I like sharing my missery. I guess too many times I have been told she will be fine as they hand me a bill for $150. Next morning she is dead as a door nail. I know it is not their fault. But somehow I'm just...

    Off to a shaky start

Kinda weird someone from Texas asking for dry weather. Like us NYers asking for more snow. :help: I guess its just too much of good thing. Hope you get that sunshine soon. When you do, send some our way. I think a little sunshine will make us all feel better. Cows and people.

    T-posts

Been farmin over 50yrs. Havn't had to many jobs that payed me 200 bucks an hour. Heck, most jobs I make less than 10 bucks per hr. Some days I would have made more if I would have stayed in bed. :)

    vet's values

Some have a good vet, some have a poor vet, and some have no vet at all. If you have a good vet you should do anything reasonable to keep him or her happy. But too many trips to your farm makes it very a very expensive hobby or if you are one of the few that depend on cattle for at least part of...

    Bring her in

I like to calve inside this time of year. Had one calve a couple of days ago outside. it was 40 degrees and raining, 4 hours later it was 10 degrees and snowing. It turned out okay but I didn't sleep good that night.

    Contrary to Self Interest

This is not meant as an excuse for anyone abusing cattle. But the price for holstein bull calves has hit rock bottom here. A friend sent 3 bull calves to the sale barn last week and got a check for ten dollars. A good heifer calf will still bring $750.00.

What the he!@ is going on here

The scary part is the growing pop. I don't remember the exact figures but I seen on tv this morning that the pop. of this country will grow from 300 million to something like 438 million by 2050. Where are we going put all them people and how are we going to feed them? ron
