    Feeder steers?

Prices are per hundred weight. For example if the price is $120.50 for a 500 lb calf you take $120.50 X 5.00 = $602.50

    fencer question

It sounds like your fence is grounded out somewhere. Try unhooking the hot line from your fencer and then check to see if you still have a charge going to the ground rod. If you do then I would have the fencer worked on. If the fence is grounded out the current will travel back through the...

    Ribeye area

Boone The ribeye is not a circle so calculating the area is a little more complicated. There is a grid that can be used to measure the area. Here is a link http://www.ag.ndsu.edu/pubs/ansci/beef/as1163-2.htm

    AI to improve cattle herd

It depends on the breed association as to which ones will let you register half bloods and then continue to breed them up. The Gelbvieh association does and there are others that have but I don't know for sure which other ones still allow this.

    Brace pins?

http://www.agf.gov.bc.ca/resmgmt/publis ... 7220-2.pdf I like the KIWI brace on page 3 and 4. You don't need a brace post. I just throw down a flat rock for the brace to rest on. I also use a high tensile wire for the brace wire with a tensioner tied in so I can go back and tighten it up if...

    Butcher weight

800 lbs is pretty small for a butcher beef. About the lightest one I have butchered is 1000. It depends a lot on the animal and how you prefer your beef. As they get older and heavier they should get fatter, get more marbling, and add more muscle (bigger steaks). If you feed another 90 days...

Does this bull calf look funny?

Just because he is a dink does not mean he is a calving ease bull. My neighbor had a salebarn bull about 1000 lbs (mature) that threw monster calves. He lost numerous calves and a few cows. For what his cheap bull actually ended up costing him in cow and calf losses he could have bought...

    Heated water bowls

Unhook the power to the water tank heater then test for current. If there is still, then you know it is not from the heater's power source.

    day light and dairy cows

Maybe you could run them on the local baseball field at night and use the lights in exchange for all natural turf fertilizer. ;-)

how much hay for growing bulls

I feed hay free choice to my bulls. Most have round bales but the ones I hand feed get 2 flakes twice daily.

    Vaccinating

Most people use 18 guage. A 16 is pretty big. I use 20 guage for most things unless it is thicker and won't flow through then I use 18 guage. I use 1 inch for SQ and 1.5 inch for IM.

    Vaccinating

The lumps are mostly caused by the immuno response to the vaccination. Some will get them worse than others. Severe lumps could be an abcess caused by contaminants carried into the injection site by the needle. If they are abnornally large then you should probably have a vet check it out.

    Fence Recovery

The poly wire will break much more easily. I like it because it is much more visible, goes up in about 1/10 the time, doesn't require as many posts, doesn't require heavy corner posts, and can be moved easily. About the only time we have something get out is if they get shoved through the fence...

    Fence Recovery

I did not know they had UV stabilized ones. We quit buying them mostly because of the splinters. I'll have to check into that.

    Fence Recovery

http://www.gallagherusa.com/pf.types.aspx?pageid=322 The poly wire is hard to beat for a temporary fence. I also like the plastic step-in posts. Goes up quick and comes down quick. I just use T-posts at corners because you just pull the poly wire tight by hand and tie it off.

    Top antibiotics for cattle.

Banamine just helps them to feel better....it is not an antibiotic it is a pain killer and I think it also helps with fever and inflamation. It us useful to help get them back on their feet and back at the feed bunk. I use LA 200 or 300 or generics of these. Also keep some sulfa boluses on...

    Head Gates

I like the manual catch Foremost and Big Valley. The Big Valley I have has smaller increment between notches which makes it easier to keep the bulls caught. The ones with the smooth bar latch tend to loosen up when they rattle it around and they get out more often.

    Hauling Servies

Try checking with your local sale barn. They will probably know some people who haul for hire. You may be able to catch someone on a return trip and get it done pretty reasonable.
