    Grow out/develop & sell question...

If you were to buy 10 registerable weanling (6 mo old) calves, grow them for one year and sell them at end of that year then would you choose heifer or bull calves? Which do you think would be more profitable? Alternately, I could buy 8-9 heifers and 1-2 bulls and market them as a "starter...

    Brangus Heifers

note that I didn't say they'd be Reg or even PB Brangus, just "pretty good quality"... yes, we can buy a decent yearling heifer down here for 750. shipping to texas gonna cost ya though!

the angus association webpage has section on explanation of their epds, pretty useful info

    Brangus Heifers

true, it costs just as much to keep a bad one than to keep an outstanding one... but you could buy pretty good quality heifers for less than half the price and AI them to get some great calves. but all depends on your goals

    Brangus Heifers

Wynne's stock looks great & most reg breeders are prob gonna be around that price for yearling heifers. However, maybe since you're just starting out you buy some less expensive stock to learn on... instead of having a ferrari for your first car, you test drive and own some fords first? it...

    Advice on this Bull?

    keep looking!

    What makes a good bull?

thats way too broad of a question for people to answer because it depends on what your goals are (what type of calves you want to produce)... however, I think most would agree on what they don't want... I surely don't want a "hatchet-butted" (no rump) bull and/or one with a ton of daylight...

do your angus rough it out there just as well as the brafords? ever knock down some trees and give em a MOL tub?

    Beefmaster Heifer's

don't think CB was being critical of beefmasters, I think he was calling BS on the trend to make black lines of non-black breeds. stabilized 3/8 BR, 5/8 english momma is gonna work & make $ in the heat, everybody knows that. thats why I'm going to take a nice chunk out of my savings to buy a...

    Beefmaster Heifer's

Whats that CB, once you go black you'll never go back? :) ...would you register them or not? just curious of your opinion.

    Beefmaster Heifer's

You guys think its worth to pay the addtl cost to register purebred beefmasters? although according to a breeder its only about 50 bucks per head, that still adds up when you're buying a larger #. (basically would be choice of buying one more heifer or registration for the whole lot). if just...

2 yo heifer, what do you think?

I've decided against the shorthorns, going after PB Beefmaster weanling heifers, will pick the ones with the least amount of odd white markings. Will have to wait longer til calves hit ground & to see return on dollar, but will be better investment in long run & just the right amount of brahman...

2 yo heifer, what do you think?

Not getting any bites- they go to the sale barn by July 4.

2 yo heifer, what do you think?

What do you think the price difference at the sale would be between selling the heifer now as heavy bred or in a month or so as pair? (providing calving goes well)

Looking for good heifers in Florida

So far I've found PB shorthorn yearlings for asking price of $1200 (registration extra). Also pure Herf (or F1 baldie, super baldie, or red baldie) 7 mo olds for 1.50/lb... so $900 for 600 lb heifer. (they run herf, BA, RA and brang bulls over herf cows)
