    Electric fence

My question is what is your favorite brand of charger? I find most are good but stay away from a Zeraba. They seem a little weak for the distance they are described to cover.

    Priefert squeeze chute

This is what I have. Really like it. IMO one can not have enough panels.

    bulls

One could try and lease a bull. Profit Maker Genetics has a lese sale every year. You get a bull, use it and they take it back. Sometimes it cost alot to do this but it is an option.

    have a question

Ask what the withdrawal date on the meds are. I think he would be lean and tough. I ate some steaks out of yearling bulls. They were banded and fed for 45 days. Kept bulls for thier contemporary groupings.

    Recent cattle deaths

Don't waste time taking the cattle to the vet. Really? You might also want to consider moving the herd to another place until you can isolate the problem as environmental or other. I agree with this.

    Squeeze Chute

IMO they are all over priced. I purchased one for 300 dollars at a farm sale. Really works well. I got a second new. It was an SO4 Preifert brand. Probly one of the most expensive out there. But for me it was worth it becasue I can work my animals by my self with it. You usually get what...

Give me his number and I will seriously ask what he is smoking.

    angus cow/heifers. why?

Maybe these cattle were just of higher quality and demanded a better price. Just because they are blk, as been talk about many times here, does not mean they are Angus.

Do I have to wean my heifer calves?

Then I stand corrected. I guesse the time I asked this question several years ago on these boards I was given the wrong answer. I still think you were lucky and I was not. Point is wean the calves and do not take a chance.

Do I have to wean my heifer calves?

The longer the calve stays on the less milk she will produce in the future. And if you do not wean her calve befor the next one is born she will not go back into colostrum.

    Cutting vs Banding

If you cut at less than a week there will be very little blood. I used to band all the ones that were able to be banded. The only knife cuts are the bigg boys. Try to make a point IMO to do this at three months old or less. The older you let them get the more problems that can occur.

    Question on castrating?

I think it is a weight and squeez issue. Meaning the testes are not much to squeez and they do not weigh anything. I have had 300 lb calves that were small for their age take longer than the well endowed for their age.

    Advice on BA lines

I have a Midland sone that is really calm. Also had an 036 son that was good to be around. The worse calve I ever had was out of Easy Fortune. Wild as a march hare. Future Direction sons that I looked at at sales all were calm. EXT sons can be flighty. Hope this helps.

I hear there is a dairy buy-out coming soon. Canners are going to the crapper. Anyone else hear such?

    banding question

IMO get the bigger banders. It takes time but just manipulate the testes into it. It will be painfull on the calve but I have banded sheep that were thaught to be to big and it worked. Patients is the key. Get one in and the force the other. You will be amazed at the size the green cherio...

Be carefull with poisons. Some are transmitted to non target animals from eating the target animal. You could open another can of worms by the neighbors dog eating the dead bird. Case in point last year there were over 20 poison cases worked by TDA were cotton farmers/ cattlemen were fined...

How much could I expect to pay...

Thats some times a tough one. I have seen bulls sell for over 20,000 that had trouble walking across the sale pen. Quality always pays in my book but I would avise shopping around and being pateint. Pick the best bull that in three years or so when you go to get another one you can say I hope...
